RAF Typhoons escort Qatar Airways Boeing 777 after in-flight concern over UK airspace

Two Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon jets were scrambled from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire after a Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300ER registered A7-BAJ operating a flight from Doha to Manchester Airport prompted concerns from civil authorities. AvTalk Episode 380: A Whale of a time

It’s episode 380, so the Airbus A380 is most certainly on the agenda. But first we’re checking in on the orders placed at this year’s Farnborough Airshow. Sir Tim Clark opines on the proper use of early build Boeing 777X frames. Then we get to learn about the important mission for Airbus’ A380 Flight Lab. Also, Ian will be at Oshkosh this weekend for the close of EAA AirVenture. Give him a shout if you’re going to be there. Elsewhere, TCAS does its job over the Atlantic, a Kalitta Air 777 drags its tail in Cincinnati, and passengers on an American Airlines flight from Boston to London go everywhere but London. Helpful links for this week’s episode * American Airlines flight 108 has a very bad week * Video of the PanAm DC-4 discovery * Airbus’ A380 flying test bed * Preliminary report on the crash of LEGO 747 and Space Shuttle

Why Airbus Just Quietly Shelved Its Next All-New Aircraft Until At Least 2031

For decades, Airbus and Boeing have shaped commercial aviation through successive aircraft. From the Airbus A300 in the 1970s and the Airbus A380 to the Boeing 777 family, both manufacturers have redefined airline fleets worldwide. So in this video, we take a look at why Airbus has delayed its next clean-sheet aircraft until at least 2031, what technologies are already under development, and why supply chain problems, engine delays, and record order backlogs have become a bigger priority than designing an entirely new airplane.

Ouch: American 777 Diverts Over Gear Issue, Then Replacement 777 Diverts Over Engine Issue

Talk about bad luck! An American Boeing 777 flying from Boston to London had to divert to New York over a maintenance issue. American quickly found a replacement plane to carry passengers to London, only for that to then divert to Boston over a maintenance issue, meaning passengers ended up exactly where they started (thanks to Simon for flagging this, and to The Aviation Herald for reporting this).
