Chicago: Participants in this year's Presidents Cup will each receive $250,000, taking total compensation paid since the introduction of stipends beyond $25 million, according to a report by Front Office Sports. The PGA Tour, which operates the Presidents Cup, began paying players, captains and assistant captains the same amount in 2022. Before that, participants were not compensated in the tournament's first 13 editions dating back to its debut in 1994. The Presidents Cup pits leading American golfers against an International Team comprising players from countries outside Europe. This year's edition will be played at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago from Thursday through Sunday. The report noted that this is the third consecutive Presidents Cup in which all participants will receive a $250,000 stipend. The move follows a similar development in the Ryder Cup, where the PGA of America paid US players $200,000 each for the first time during the most recent edition. The European team did not receive player compensation. Both the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup also generate significant charitable contributions, with organisers donating millions of dollars to charitable causes during each event. The United States enter this year's Presidents Cup as strong favourites, having won 10 consecutive editions of the competition since 2005.
