Projectile strikes tanker entering Strait of Hormuz; two crew members injured
Middle East: A tanker was struck by an "unknown projectile" while entering the Strait of Hormuz, leaving two crew members with minor injuries, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre. The UKMTO said on Monday that the vessel was continuing to its next port of call under its own power and that there were no reports of any environmental impact. The incident comes as tensions remain elevated across the region. Iran has asserted control over much of the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of the war involving the United States and Israel on 28 February. During peacetime, around 20 million barrels of oil, representing roughly one-fifth of global supply, passed through the strategic waterway each day. Although some tankers have resumed transiting the strait, traffic remains significantly below previous levels.
