Air Serbia named Airline Market Leader

Air Transport World (ATW) has named Air Serbia Airline Market Leader as part of its 52nd annual Industry Achievement Awards. The carrier had previously won the accolade in 2017. ATW’s airline awards were established in 1974 to recognise excellence in the air transport industry and are well-respected across the sector for their integrity and independence, attracting hundreds of airline nominations every year. “Our panel of editor and analyst judges voted strongly in favour of Air Serbia being the 2027 ATW Airline Market Leader recipient. The Air Serbia team has worked diligently to keep growing and improving this airline, providing critical air connectivity within and beyond the Central European market. I congratulate Air Serbia and its leadership”, Karen Walker, ATW Editor-in-Chief, said. Chile-based LATAM was selected Airline of the Year. Other award recipients include Scoot (Eco-Airline of the Year), Jet2 (Value Airline of the Year), American Airlines (Force for Good, co-presented with Airlink nonprofit), Jordanian CEO Samer Majali (Leadership Excellence), Cathay Cargo (Cargo Operator), Pittsburgh International Airport (Airport of the Year), Air France-Groupe ADP (Airline-Airport Partnership) and Saudia Airlines COO Suliaman Yaqoobi (Joseph S. Murphy Award). The 52nd ATW Awards will be presented at a Gala dinner in Milan, Italy, on Thursday, December 10, 2026. The dinner will be held in conjunction with the CAPA World Airline Leader Summit 2026. Commenting on the accolade, Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said, “Being named an Airline Market Leader is a special honour for us and proof that Air Serbia, as Serbia’s national airline, is a proud ambassador for its country around the world. In a year in which we have continued to decisively expand our network and introduce new direct services to key destinations worldwide, our goal is to represent Serbia in the best possible way and ensure that it is recognised at the highest international level”. He added, “This award crowns the work of our team of dedicated professionals, who improve the quality of our services and the experience of our passengers every day, making a direct contribution to connecting the world with Serbia. I am confident that, in the period ahead, we will continue to set ambitious goals and further improve all aspects of our operations”. EX-YU Aviation News

AvTalk Episode 385: “Looking into” that low flypast

On this week’s episode of AvTalk, we discuss the low Airlink flypast in Cape Town, what’s been lost in the discussion so far, and what the South African civil aviation authority has to say about it. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy warns airlines to avoid Russian airspace as drones play an ever increasing role in the war between Russia and Ukraine. German authorities blame Russia for the recent explosive-laden drone in Leipzig. The FAA is moving to fire a pair of controllers who left the La Guardia tower early on the day of the crash between an Air Canada CRJ and ARFF truck. But the situation isn’t as straightforward as it seems. South Korean officials move to charge seven officials from the transport ministry with falsifying documents after the Jeju Air crash in Muan. And US airlines continue the race to be as premium as possible.
