Iran denies dropping preconditions amid ‘very productive’ three-hour UN talks in New York

Trump says further talks possible as barrel of Brent crude falls to below $100 for first time in two weeks Iran has pushed back on claims that it dropped former preconditions for reopening the strait of Hormuz in surprise talks held in New York under the mediation of Qatar between Tehran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, and Donald Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Trump said the three-hour talks held in a room at the UN headquarters had gone very well and been very productive. He suggested further talks were possible imminently, which led to the price of a barrel of Brent crude to fall to below $100 (£75) for the first time in two weeks. Saudi Arabia Restarts East-West Oil Pipeline

Saudi Arabia has restarted its East-West oil pipeline, restoring at least some flow through the 4-million-barrel-per-day route that had become the kingdom’s main escape hatch around the Strait of Hormuz. The pipeline is running at a low rate for now, according to Reuters sources, with Aramco working to return flows to roughly 4 million bpd. A full restart could still take weeks. One cargo was scheduled to load at the Red Sea port of Yanbu Tuesday for China. Oil traders didn’t wait for full capacity. Brent saw a temporary dip of more…

Oil Prices Reverse Course as Traders Watch US-Iran Diplomacy

Crude oil prices, which had been falling since last week, today reversed course and made gains ahead of a UN General Assembly session that many hope will yield some progress on peace talks between the U.S. and Iran. However, some observers see oil’s change of direction differently. “The move higher in WTI and the stronger open in Brent have the…

Oil Prices Slide as Traders Bet on Iran Diplomacy

Crude oil prices started the week with a slide, moving down to the lowest in a week on renewed hopes about a diplomatic resolution of the war in the Middle East, despite the absence of any evidence that there is willingness for negotiations on either side. At the time of writing, Brent crude was trading at $102.05 per barrel, and West Texas Intermediate was changing hands for $98.50 per barrel, as traders pinned their hopes on a UN meeting this week, despite the fact that Washington and Tehran traded fresh threats this weekend. The U.S. president…

Saudi Export Pivot Sends Brent Below $105

Saudi Aramco shifts crude exports to the Persian Gulf, easing supply fears and pushing Brent below $105. Friday, September 18, 2026 Last week’s market panic about the 7 million b/d East-West pipeline remaining offline for weeks gave way to a slightly more nuanced outlook this week, with Saudi Aramco re-orienting all its loadings to the Persian Gulf. Whilst flows from Ras Tanura still carry the risk of potential Iranian drone strikes in the Strait, the fact that Saudi Aramco keeps on offering crude to Asian buyers (in contrast to its Europeans…
