Qatar Charity Provides Food Aid to 12,500 Displaced and Vulnerable People in Nigeria

Doha, September 22, 2026 As part of its humanitarian response to food insecurity in Nigeria, Qatar Charity (QC) distributed 2,298 food baskets to highly vulnerable households across Borno, Yobe, Kogi, and Niger States, benefiting approximately 12,575 displaced and vulnerable people. Distribution Across Four States The intervention included the distribution of 1,000 food baskets to internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in informal settlements in Maiduguri, Borno State; 500 baskets to displaced and vulnerable families in Lokoja, Kogi State; and 450 baskets in Minna, Niger State. An additional 448 baskets were distributed in Damaturu, Yobe State, to families of patients who underwent cataract surgery as part of Qatar Charity’s eye care project. Each basket contained essential food items to meet the immediate nutritional needs of beneficiary families, helping reduce hunger and improve access to food while preserving their dignity and supporting household well-being. Distribution Priorities In Borno State, the distribution was carried out in cooperation with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), reaching beneficiaries from Dalori Camp and several settlements hosting displaced people. Priority was given to persons with disabilities and households headed by widows or elderly people. Distributions in Kogi, Niger, and Yobe States were also carried out in coordination with the respective state governments and relevant authorities, including the Kogi State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Growing Humanitarian Needs The intervention comes amid continuing food security challenges in Nigeria, particularly in conflict-affected areas of the country’s northeast, where displacement, disrupted livelihoods, and rising living costs have increased the humanitarian needs of vulnerable families. Beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the assistance and its role in easing their hardship. Zara Modu said: “Before this support, our children sometimes ate only once a day, while we adults occasionally spent an entire day without food. We thank the generous people of Qatar and Qatar Charity for this assistance.” Other Projects and Initiatives Qatar Charity recently carried out 1,074 eye surgeries under its ongoing “Ibsar” (Eyesight) Initiative to combat diseases that cause vision loss. The surgeries enabled 1,018 vulnerable beneficiaries in northern Nigeria to regain their sight as part of a specialized campaign to combat preventable blindness and improve eye care services. Qatar Charity also distributed 270 white canes to people with visual impairments whose sight could not be restored through surgery. Qatar Charity continues to implement humanitarian and development programmes in Nigeria in cooperation with government institutions and local communities, with the aim of meeting the basic needs of vulnerable groups and strengthening their resilience. ** End**

Qatar: QRCS launches environmental sanitation campaigns in Khartoum

September 22nd, 2026 ― Doha, Qatar: In coordination with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Khartoum Cleaning Corporation (KCC), the representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Sudan has launched an environmental sanitation campaign in the Khartoum East Locality, as part of a large-scale, three-month program that would encompass all localities across the state. Phase 1 of the campaign targets seven neighborhoods of Khartoum East, covering an area of approximately 30 km2. Intensive cleaning and environmental sanitation activities are being carried out, including the cleaning of streets, markets, and residential areas; removal of waste piles and debris; garbage disposal; improvement of public landscape; and enhancement of hygiene and environmental sanitation. A Terms of Reference (ToR) document was signed by QRCS and KCC to outline the roles, responsibilities, and coordination/implementation mechanisms for both parties, ensuring effective field interventions. The launch ceremony was attended by Khartoum’s Minister of Health, Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Environment, Executive Director of Khartoum Locality, Director of KCC, and head and staff of QRCS’s office in Sudan. The campaigns are part of QRCS’s efforts to support local authorities in improving environment sanitation and public services, reducing environmental and health risks associated with waste accumulation, and strengthening partnership and coordination with government and specialized organizations. The program is expected to help upgrade Khartoum’s urban environment, public health, and quality of life. This is one of QRCS’s Integrated Humanitarian Interventions project, which involves a whole set of multisector humanitarian projects to support affected and displaced people in the war-torn country. Key interventions include: 1. Health: Medical equipment/supplies for hospitals; medical convoys for cardiology ophthalmology, and general/specialized surgery; cancer drugs; and dialysis services. 2. Water and Sanitation: Boreholes; water tanks; solar-powered pumps; water distribution tankers; water coolers for hospitals, schools, and universities; and environmental cleanup campaigns and waste collection services. 3. Emergency Relief: Food parcels, family shelter tents, and nonfood items (NFIs). 4. Education: School bags/stationery, sponsorship of underprivileged students, classroom furniture, and care for orphans. Approximately 330,000 displaced and poor people will benefit from these interventions/services, at a total cost of QR 28 million. Qatar Charity Emergency Response Plan (ERP): New Wave of Yemeni Refugees Reaches Djibouti 2026

Countries: Djibouti, Yemen Source: Qatar Charity SEPTEMBER 2026 – NOVEMBER 2026 | PUBLISHED ON 15 SEPTEMBER Doha, Qatar — Qatar Charity- QC has activated an emergency humanitarian response to support Yemeni refugees arriving in Djibouti, as renewed fighting in Yemen continues to force families across the Bab al-Mandab Strait in search of safety. According to the International Organization for Migration, displacement inside Yemen has surpassed 85,000 people, while more than 2,000 people have reached Djibouti’s northern shores near Obock in recent days, many of them women and children. In response to the rapidly evolving situation, Qatar Charity has mobilized its crisis management teams at headquarters in Doha and through its field office in Djibouti to deliver urgent lifesaving assistance to newly arrived families and to reinforce support for refugee-hosting areas already under pressure. Djibouti has long served as a critical place of refuge for Yemenis fleeing conflict, insecurity, and economic collapse. UNHCR data shows that, as of 31 March 2026, Djibouti was hosting 36,364 refugees and asylum-seekers, including 3,934 Yemenis, who represented 10.8 percent of the country’s registered refugee and asylum-seeker population. The latest arrivals are increasing pressure on limited public services, shelter capacity, water supplies, health services, and basic infrastructure in Obock and surrounding host communities. Immediate humanitarian needs are: Emergency shelter and non-food items; Hot meals and ready-to-eat food assistance; Safe drinking water; Primary health care; WASH facilities and hygiene support; and Nutrition support for mothers and children. QATAR CHARITY CAPACITY AND RESPONSE QC- Djibouti has a longstanding presence in the country and extensive experience supporting the Government-led response to Yemeni refugees. QC’s initial emergency package for the new wave of refugees, with an estimated allocation of USD 1,000,000, focuses on the most urgent humanitarian needs facing newly arrived families, including shelter, essential household items, food, water, and dignity support. The response includes: Shelter and non-food items, including sleeping mats and blankets, for 1,959 families; Hot meals and safe drinking water for 1,000 people over 10 days; Essential clothing and shoes for 1,040 families; and The planned intervention includes provision of 500 family tents to expand safe and dignified temporary shelter options. Qatar Charity emphasized that its response is being implemented in close coordination with Djiboutian authorities, IOM, and humanitarian partners to ensure assistance reaches the most vulnerable families quickly and effectively. The intervention is designed not only to meet immediate survival needs, but also to reduce pressure on host communities by strengthening support in areas where public services and resources are already stretched. “Families arriving in Djibouti have endured fear, displacement, and dangerous journeys in search of safety,” Qatar Charity said. “Our priority is to provide immediate lifesaving assistance while helping preserve dignity and protection for refugees and the communities receiving them.” Qatar Charity called on the international community and donor organizations to scale up support for Yemeni refugees in Djibouti and other host countries, including funding for lifesaving assistance, protection services, health care, water and sanitation, and sustainable humanitarian programmes.
