Sources: United Airlines May Scoop Up The Early Boeing 777Xs Rejected By Emirates

Emirates, the largest single customer of the Boeing 777X rejected the delivery of the first 10 airframes due to extensive rework that would be needed to bring them up to current standards. These planes have been parked for many years, leading to the Middle Eastern carrier standing its ground and the jets potentially being orphaned indefinitely. However, this has reportedly led to US carrier United Airlines to consider buying the airframes.

AvTalk Episode 380: A Whale of a time

It’s episode 380, so the Airbus A380 is most certainly on the agenda. But first we’re checking in on the orders placed at this year’s Farnborough Airshow. Sir Tim Clark opines on the proper use of early build Boeing 777X frames. Then we get to learn about the important mission for Airbus’ A380 Flight Lab. Also, Ian will be at Oshkosh this weekend for the close of EAA AirVenture. Give him a shout if you’re going to be there. Elsewhere, TCAS does its job over the Atlantic, a Kalitta Air 777 drags its tail in Cincinnati, and passengers on an American Airlines flight from Boston to London go everywhere but London. Helpful links for this week’s episode * American Airlines flight 108 has a very bad week * Video of the PanAm DC-4 discovery * Airbus’ A380 flying test bed * Preliminary report on the crash of LEGO 747 and Space Shuttle

Emirates Refuses 10 Pre-Built Boeing 777Xs Over Rework Costs

Despite being the largest customer for the type, Emirates has confirmed that it does not plan to take delivery of the oldest Boeing 777X jets that have already been built. This was confirmed at the Farnborough International Airshow by Tim Clark, President at Emirates. The reason? Well, it’s because these aircraft are already around eight years old, and thus no longer “up to spec.”
