Iran-backed Houthi rebels take strategic port city in Yemen, raising threat to Red Sea shipping

The Iran-backed Houthi rebel group on Thursday took over Yemen’s port city of Mokha, an area vital to controlling shipping through the Red Sea, Houthi and Yemeni officials said. Mokha is about 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a waterway that connects the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden and through which about 12% of the world’s goods are typically shipped. Israeli-made film about AI-aided mass killings in Gaza gets 25-minute ovation at Venice premiere

A film documenting Israel's use of artificial intelligence to facilitate the mass killing of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip received a record 25-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday. "NAZA" details the brutal Israeli bombardment of the Palestinian territory through anonymous interviews with two dozen whistleblowers from the Israeli military or intelligence services.

Zelensky's plane 'almost hit' by drone en route to Oslo, Norway PM says

Ukraine and Moldova on Wednesday played down claims from Norway's prime minister that a plane carrying President Volodymyr Zelensky was almost hit by a drone as it flew to Oslo. Jonas Gahr Store told Norwegian public broadcaster NRK that Zelensky's plane was "almost hit by a drone when it was taking off from Moldova". But a source in the Ukrainian presidency described the claim that Zelensky was at risk as "exaggerated".

The French Football Federation (FFF) announced Thursday it is withdrawing its support for embattled FIFA boss Gianni Infantino and his bid for reelection as head of football’s governing body. Infantino has faced growing calls to step down over his aborted plan to sell stakes in the World Cup and other football associations, including those of England and Italy, have already withdrawn their backing.
