Sudan: Inter-Agency Rapid Need Assessment (IRNA) - Ag Geneina Locality West Darfur State, (August 2026)

Between 26 and 28 July 2026, a joint inter-agency team comprising humanitarian organisations, coordination actors and four line ministries conducted an Inter-Agency Rapid Needs Assessment (IRNA) across 13 displacement sites and neighbourhoods in Ag Geneina locality. The mission was authorised by SARHO, West Darfur, and coordinated through OCHA and the ABC mechanism. Of 542 submitted interviews, 536 met consent and usability criteria and form the analysis dataset. Assessed households were predominantly internally displaced (76.3%; 409/536), alongside permanent residents (13.6%), returnees (8.8%) and seasonal returnees (1.3%). Conflict or insecurity at origin was the main reported driver (88.4%), and 60 households linked their displacement to El Fasher. Needs were severe and multi-sectoral: 93.5% (501/536) could not fully meet basic needs, mainly because of insufficient money (95.4% of 501) and high prices (72.3%). Food was the most frequently selected priority (89.7% of 534), and 56.7% (304/536) reported a severe food shortage or days without food in the previous week. Service constraints were also widespread. Water was insufficient for 54.3% (291/536); 82.3% (441/536) reported at least one serious shelter problem; and 70.3% (377/536) had only partial or no access to health care. Among households with school-age children, 53.0% (185/349) reported no girls attending and 52.7% (167/317) reported no boys attending. Protection and accountability findings require targeted follow-up: 18.8% (101/536) felt unsafe most or all of the time, 61.4% (329/536) lacked at least one civil document, and 39.7% (213/536) reported no assistance in the previous six months. Among assistance recipients, 92.0% (297/323) considered support inadequate or only partially adequate. Indicative location patterns point to multi-sector response priorities at Kaja Schools Complex, Um Dwawiyn School, the Medical Facility/Hospital site, Krinding 1 and 2, and Ardamata. Results describe assessed households only: sampling was purposive, location samples vary, and findings must not be extrapolated to the locality population.
