The 78th Emmy Awards are tonight. As the cliché goes: It’s TV’s biggest night of the year! Taking place at the Peacock Theater in Downtown LA, the ceremony tonight starts at 5pm PT / 8pm ET and will be streaming on Peacock and airing on NBC. Hosting is Law & Order: SVU’s Mariska Hargitay (who won two Emmys for her doc My Mom Jayn at the Creative Arts Emmys). The show’s format is slightly different this year, presumably in an effort to keep it from stretching past three hours. The Television Academy announced back in July that it was cutting five categories — Writing for a Variety Series, Supporting Actor and Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, Directing for a Limited Series or Movie, and Writing for a Limited Series or Movie — from the main broadcast, and lumped them in with the Creative Arts Emmy Awards that happened last weekend.
