The device brought the iPhone's multi-touch interface, Wi-Fi, and Safari browser to the iPod lineup for the first time, but it lacked cellular phone functionality and a camera. iPod touch launched at $299 for 8GB and $399 for 16GB, and was pitched as a pocket-sized way to browse the web and buy music wirelessly through the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. Apple's Two Rumored Game Controllers Will 'Likely' Come From Beats

Earlier this month, references to two unreleased Apple game controllers were allegedly spotted in macOS 26.7 beta code , and now Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman has shared more details. In his Power On newsletter today , Gurman said the controllers have been in development for more than a year, are for the iPhone, and will likely have Beats branding. Acquired by Apple in 2014, Beats has expanded beyond headphones and now sells charging cables , iPhone cases , and more. "Apple sees this as a growing market and wants in," he wrote. iOS 27 Available Tomorrow With These 8 New Features

During its iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo event last week, Apple announced that iOS 27 will be released widely on Monday, September 14. iOS 27 should be available around 10 a.m. Pacific Time / 1 p.m. Eastern Time tomorrow via the Settings app, under General → Software Update. Below, we have highlighted 12 new features and changes coming with iOS 27, with the main attraction being a major revamp of Siri. iOS 27 is compatible with the iPhone 11 series and newer, but Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence features are limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer. New Features Siri AI The classic version of Siri has always been useful for basic actions like setting a timer and checking the weather, but it has notoriously struggled with more advanced requests over the years. That all changes with iOS 27, which features a much more intelligent and personalized version of Siri named Siri AI. Siri AI is essentially a ChatGPT-like version of Siri that can answer pretty much anything. iOS 27 introduces a dedicated Siri app, or you can continue to invoke the assistant by pressing and holding the iPhone's side button. Given it is powered by Apple Intelligence, Siri AI requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Siri AI can draw on your personal information stored on your iPhone, has on-screen awareness, and can perform actions in more apps that support it. Apple said Siri AI is limited to English to start, and the feature will be subject to daily usage limits, with expanded access to be available for a fee in the future. Siri AI will not be initially available in the EU on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and watchOS 27, as Apple is in a regulatory battle with the European Commission. More Apple Intelligence Features Other new Apple Intelligence features on iOS 27 include new "Extend" and "Reframe" options in the Photos app, the ability to generate "photorealistic" images in the Image Playground app, the ability to create new shortcuts in the Shortcuts app by simply describing them, generated video descriptions for HomeKit Secure Video cameras, and more. Liquid Glass Design Changes Apple introduced a new Liquid Glass design on iOS 26, and it has further refined the interface on iOS 27. Apple says Liquid Glass now has "more uniform refraction and improved contrast," and app icons are "sharper and more detailed." A new slider lets you adjust how clear or tinted Liquid Glass looks. Performance Improvements iOS 27 makes a lot of actions and experiences faster across the operating system. For example, Apple said app launches are up to 30% faster, new photos in the Photos app library load up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster. To learn about others, check out our list of noteworthy performance improvements . iPhone Handoff Apple has added a new iPhone Handoff feature to iOS 27 that allows you to switch between two iPhones while using the same phone number on each device. iPhone Handoff requires support from carriers, which may charge a fee for the feature. T-Mobile in the U.S. and Deutsche Telekom in Germany will be the first carriers to offer iPhone Handoff, with T-Mobile set to charge $5 per month for it. Apple Cash Bill Splitting In the U.S. only, iOS 27 allows you to split bills with a new feature powered by Apple Cash and Apple Intelligence. This capability is available in the Apple Wallet and Messages apps, or by using the new Siri mode in the Camera app. "When users point their iPhone at a receipt using Siri mode, it can surface the relevant action to split a bill with Apple Cash and identify the items on the receipt," said Apple. "As users select their items, their total payment is calculated, including their share of tax and tip, so they can pay back exactly what they owe with Apple Cash." Hide Location in Find My In the Find My app, you can now share your location with others for a custom duration , such as four days and six hours. Or, you can set a set an exact date and time for your location sharing to expire. In addition, you can now pause your location sharing with specific people until the end of the day, without them knowing. The ability to hide your location is meant for things like planning a surprise birthday party for your spouse. On iOS 26 and earlier, there are only three preset timeframes available for Find My location sharing: indefinitely, until end of day, and one hour. CarPlay Video Apps Back at WWDC 2025, Apple revealed that it was planning to allow CarPlay users to watch video via AirPlay in their vehicles while they are not driving. In a WWDC 2026 video aimed at developers, Apple said the CarPlay video feature is available in new vehicles that support it. When playing a video in an iPhone app that supports AirPlay video streaming, users can select the car's display from the AirPlay menu on iOS and watch the video on a compatible vehicle's screen. New in iOS 27, Apple is allowing developers to create CarPlay apps with video browsing capabilities, so you can find videos to watch right on CarPlay. This feature can keep you entertained while you are not driving. For example, Apple said you may use it while waiting in your car at the airport, or charging your electric vehicle. For safety reasons, video playback is only enabled when the vehicle is parked. CarPlay video will likely roll out in new vehicles over time, so stay tuned. Here's When iOS 27 Rolls Out in Every Time Zone

Apple is about to release iOS 27 , which will finally deliver more advanced Siri AI capabilities as well as a variety of other refinements, improvements, and new features to iPhones. It's Apple's biggest software update of the year, and Apple announced at Wednesday's iPhone event that it will be releasing ‌iOS 27‌ sometime tomorrow – Monday, September 14. ‌iOS 27‌ won't be the only release on Monday, as macOS Golden Gate and other releases in the OS 27 family will also drop around the same time as ‌iOS 27‌. Based on past releases, the update is likely to drop at around 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time/1:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Apple's own websites for countries around the world also suggest a 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time release, with Apple's site for India listing a September 14 launch while the company's pages for Singapore, Hong Kong, and others in that region list a September 15 release. That points to a narrow release window around 10:00 a.m. Pacific to line up with time zones where it will be after midnight in some of those countries. To give iPhone users globally an idea of when ‌iOS 27‌ should become available as an over-the-air update, we've compiled the below list of time zone conversions for several countries. This list isn't exhaustive, so please verify the exact time for your specific location, and bear in mind that there could always be a delay as Apple prepares its servers for rollout. Apple Says iPhone 18 Pro Max Sold in U.S. Differs in One Way

As noted by Nicolas Lellouche , who writes for the French tech website Numerama , Apple has updated its tech specs pages for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to clarify which models are equipped with its new C2 cellular modem and where. Apple now says the iPhone 18 Pro has a C2 modem worldwide, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max uses the chip in every country except for the U.S. According to a tipster known as @itspdfu , who has been digging through Apple's software updates in recent weeks, iOS 27 code reveals that the iPhone 18 Pro Max is equipped with a Qualcomm modem instead of the C2 chip in the U.S. Apple has yet to provide an explanation for this modem difference, so we can only speculate for now. In 2023, Qualcomm announced that it would supply Apple with smartphone modems through 2026, so perhaps Apple is equipping the U.S. version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max with a Qualcomm modem in order to honor this agreement in a minimum way. Apple's C2 modem supports ultra-fast mmWave 5G in the U.S., unlike its previous-generation C1 and C1X modems. Qualcomm modems in the iPhone 12 and newer already supported mmWave 5G in the U.S., so Apple is playing catch up here. Apple said the C2 delivers "meaningfully faster uploads" compared to the C1X while consuming 15% less energy. Apple's first-generation C1 modem debuted in the iPhone 16e in February 2025, and the second-generation C1X debuted in the iPhone Air in September 2025. Now, the third-generation C2 modem has arrived in the iPhone 18 Pro models, except for the iPhone 18 Pro Max in the U.S. as mentioned, as Apple's transition away from Qualcomm continues. It is unclear which Qualcomm modem is in U.S. units of the iPhone 18 Pro Max, but the Snapdragon X85 is most likely. Over the coming weeks, real-world performance tests should show how the C2 and Snapdragon X85 stack up. Apple's foldable iPhone Duo uses the C2 modem worldwide. T-Mobile's Apple iPhone 18 Pro "On Us" Deal Explained

Apple's newest lineup of iPhone 18 phones, which includes the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the all new iPhone 18 Duo, was announced during Apple's "Surprise and Shine" Event on September 9. Preorders have officially gone live for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, with orders shipping out starting September 18. Get an iPhone 18 Pro "On Us" at T-Mobile Preorders are now live, phones ship on September 18 T-Mobile has kicked off its iPhone 18 "On Us" promotion, which gives you a free iPhone 18 Pro phone when you either switch carriers and port in your number or trade in an eligible phone in any condition. You'll also have to sign up for the Experience Beyond plan, with the discount applied as bill credits over a 36 month period for a total of $1,199 in credit. There is a one-time $35 connection charge. Alternatively, you can preorder the iPhone 18 Pro Max and get the same $1,199 in bill credits. The Pro Max costs $1,299 retail, which means you'll have to pay an extra $100, still worth it if you want to upgrade to a larger screen size. The Experience Beyond plan costs $100 per month for a single line with AutoPay (plus taxes and fees). The plan gives you unlimited talk, text, and 5G premium data. Other perks include Netflix (Standard with ads) and Hulu subscriptions, Apple TV for $3/mo, unlimited mobile hotspot, T-Satellite, phone upgrade eligibility every year, and a 5 year price guarantee. International travelers can also benefit from unlimited text and 30GB of high-speed data in Canada and Mexico and unlimited text and 15GB of high-speed data in over 215 other countries. So far only the iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max are eligible, but the iPhone Duo may follow Currently the only promotion listed is for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. There's a good chance, however, that we'll see a similar discount or better for the iPhone Duo. The iPhone Duo would be an especially attractive offer, since the phone will carry a sticker price of $1,999 . We'll find out when the iPhone Duo goes up for preorder on October 16. Usually with these types of promotions you end up paying more for the phone compared to buying it outright, but who wants to spend that much money right out of the gate for a phone? If you intend to stick with T-Mobile's 5G network anyways, then that's all the more reason to start using Apple's new iPhone immediately. The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable phone, the rest are incremental upgrades The Apple iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max upgrades the APU to the new Apple A20 Pro processor built on a new 2-nanometer process technology. Apple claims 40% greater graphics performanceo ver the previous iPhone. Other notable upgrades include a main camera that's now equipped with variable aperture from f/1.48 to f/4.0 and faster 60W charging. The iPhone Duo will be a foldable smartphone with two displays: a 5.4" screen when the phone is folded and a larger 7.6" screen when it's unfolded. This will be Apple's thinnest iPhone ever (in unfolded mode). It will be equipped with the same Apple A20 Pro processor found in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
