Tesla and Sunrun’s virtual power plant dispatch record 580 MW to California grid

Sunrun and Tesla pulled a record 580 megawatts of power from home batteries onto California’s grid during a heat wave on September 9, the largest residential distributed power plant event ever recorded. The dispatch pooled more than 140,000 home batteries across the state and ran for a three-hour window in the evening, when the grid was straining under air-conditioning load. more…

Tesla reopens $50,000 Roadster reservations ahead of October 1 unveil

Tesla has reopened reservations for its next-generation Roadster, asking buyers for a $50,000 deposit about two weeks before the car is even unveiled. The reserve page went live this week ahead of an October 1 reveal near Waco, Texas. It’s the second time Tesla has collected $50,000 for the Roadster. XPeng shops its self-driving tech to automakers — Tesla found no takers

XPeng is trying to turn its self-driving and smart-cockpit systems into a licensing business, courting automakers, suppliers, and software firms well beyond its existing Volkswagen deal, according to a Reuters report.
